Feminine and Fun: The Sorbet Colour Trend

For the past week I’ve been rummaging local clothing stores trying to find a wedding outfit for this Saturday. I haven’t been successful up to now, but wondered why I kept looking at pale coloured dresses, especially since my wedding style has always been bold, loud and colourful. Perhaps my softer more girly side has (finally) come out, or maybe it’s the latest sorbet colour trend that has set my fashion senses alight. All I know is, this colour trend is a must-have for your summer wardrobe.

What are sorbet colours, you may ask? Think sorbet ice cream… delectable colours like watermelon, peach, lime, mint and mango. A romantic summer style that is best pulled together with colours like white, black and grey, for femininity and fun.

You can choose to go head to toe in sorbet pastel shades as though you are the sorbet itself, or you can create amazing looks by pairing the subtle shades with statement pieces.

Soft lady-like sorbet colors from top to bottom are perfect by themselves. But you can incorporate browns or blacks as accent colours to keep everything polished and grounded. Black separates can offset this sugary palette. If you’ve got great legs then embrace the latest skirt/short style this summer-the ‘skort’. Add a pair of strappy sandals to finish this minimal look.

Another way to wear sorbet is to team it with white. Add a tonal cami top and slim white jeans to soft sorbet for an easy off-duty summer look. Wedge heels in a nude tone keep the look grounded for a daytime ensemble, perfect for lazy summer lunches.

Gold colors are perfect for balancing out the barely-there sorbet pastels but consider your skin tone. Your skin tone is your natural canvas. With soft pastel sorbet-inspired colors, pale fashionistas can look dead pale and olive-skins can appear yellow.

I love this colour trend because there's something extremely cheerful and whimsical about it. And just because its girly, doesn’t mean you have to look like a 16 year old. Try to incorporate edgy accessories and tailored cuts for a sleek, ‘put together’ ensemble.

Here's how to stay on trend:

  1. Pastel on pastel - Go colour happy with any combination of pastels, this is the perfect season to get away with it
  2. Pair pastels with a neutral - Whether it’s a one-piece pastel dress or pastel separates put-together, layering it with a neutral vest or jacket will add the chic to the sweet. I love the faded pink and nude-peach combination.
  3. Pastel rock - To create a more edgy look, look out for pastel clothes, shoes, or accessories with hardware (e.g. zips, studs, leather, or metal eyelets)
